Administrator, Ruth B

Administrator

Cockermouth, United Kingdom
For the last 11 years I have worked in Education both in schools and more recently in Children’s Services. I have found this work very rewarding and through it have developed my administrative skills and built up a wide range of experience. Eighteen months ago I chose to reduce my hours in order to support my daughter’s transition to university. Over the last year I have been looking for a new challenge which will broaden my future working career. For a number of years I have enjoyed volunteering as a Classroom Assistant, Governor and Guide Unit helper. I have been looking into the charity sector to see if I might combine the reward I get from volunteering with the administrative skills I have developed from working in education. I have many skills which I could bring to the Business Support role. I am well organised and highly motivated and work well as part of a team but can also work under my own initiative. In my role as Office Manager I was given the opportunity to enhance my administrative qualifications by completing an NVQ level III and then an NVQ level IV in Business Administration. As well as 11 years recent experience in office administration I feel these qualifications give me more focused ‘real-life’ skills to bring to a job. In my role as Office Manager I was Line Manager for an Admin Assistant and being the first point of contact both physically and by telephone/email for parents, visitors and staff I delivered an ...efficient customer service. Having worked with vulnerable families I understand the need for confidentiality and professionalism and am able to... provide the supporting link for both parents/foster carers and children. Providing the link with the Learning Mentor, Access and Inclusion Officer and contracted Kitchen staff internally as well as external contractors required good interpersonal skills and also an ability to communicate effectively and efficiently. More recently I have provided the link between Children’s Services staff and schools/other outside agencies and it is extremely important that these messages are dealt with professionally and confidentially. I have developed a broad range of advanced IT skills through my use of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel but also Access. I have also monitored budget systems in Access, logging invoices, timesheets, travel forms etc. and reporting to Governors on a monthly basis. I have experience of setting up records within Excel to provide evidence of dinner money, school trip money etc., counting and banking these monies and been responsible for the School Fund A/c and reimbursement of staff. I have an in-depth knowledge of Schools Student Information Management System (SIMS) database and I am confident in inputting data/photographs, upgrading the system, creating and producing returns/reports/registers for internal/external use. In this role I was regularly contacted by other schools who valued my expertise and knowledge in helping solve their problems. I found this opportunity to help others rewarding and valuable in helping deliver the wider objectives of the organisation. In both my current and previous jobs my role has been customer focussed serving the needs of people I support. I am experienced at balancing time spent on different activities to ensure I deliver a high level of service to all the teams I work for. I recently supported a number of staff who are mobile, work from home or are part time so I am used to multi-tasking and working to tight deadlines in order to ensure that I complete the tasks assigned to me in time for when staff require them, taking into account the times when they are in the office or in work. On a voluntary basis I have been involved with children and young people through Church groups, guides and holiday clubs for many years. I enjoy working with them and seeing them mature. I have been a Governor since November 2000 and enjoy being part of the school community. I have been actively involved in the school for the past 11 years helping with trips, after school activities, school productions, school fayres and being a member of the school parent association committee. I have assisted in various classes one morning or afternoon per week during that time and as Governor with responsibility for SEN I currently go into school one afternoon per week and work with groups of children in whatever way is advised by the Class Teacher. I produce an SEN and Responsible Governor Report following my time in school for each Full Governor meeting.
